Winston-Salem, NC — A head-on crash Thursday morning has claimed the lives of two people and left investigators searching for answers. The incident occurred on Thomasville Road in Winston-Salem, involving three vehicles, including a 2016 Ford Escape driven by Darlene Schuwan Hauser, 68.
According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, the crash happened around 8:40 a.m. when Hauser, traveling south, veered into oncoming traffic.

The crash occurred as Hauser’s vehicle crossed the double yellow line, sideswiping a 2016 Toyota 4Runner traveling north. Hauser then collided head-on with a 2008 Ford Focus.
“The Ford Escape sideswiped the Toyota before crashing directly into the Ford Focus,” police said in their release.
Hauser was pronounced dead at the scene, while her passenger, Maurice Singh, 55, was taken to a local medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
