University of Alabama in Huntsville Reports Rising Freshman Enrollment for Fall 2025

Huntsville, AL — The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is seeing undergraduate enrollment grow for a second consecutive year, reporting 1,220 new freshmen for the Fall 2025 semester.

Freshman Class Achieves High Academic Profile

Dr. Michael Poll, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, highlighted both the increase in class size and quality.

“We’re really happy with our class. We increased the class slightly, but we also increased the class profile,” Poll said.

The Fall 2025 freshman cohort had an average ACT score of 27 and an average GPA of 3.97, reflecting UAH’s commitment to academic excellence.

“People understand that it’s a high, high quality of education,” Poll added.

Total undergraduate enrollment has now reached 6,743 students, with the university emphasizing controlled growth and a focus on in-state enrollment.

Tennessee Resident Scholarship Program Boosts Out-of-State Enrollment

UAH noted that a relatively new scholarship program has been attracting more students from Tennessee.

“We do offer in-state tuition for our Tennessee residents, and that has been a positive,” Poll said. “The early signs for the fall of 2026 are showing even more interest in that.”

The Tennessee Resident Scholarship Program, launched in Fall 2021, helps Tennessee students afford tuition while attending UAH. One early recipient, Chloe Brant, now a senior, praised the program:

“Not being able to afford college was one of my biggest struggles, or one of my biggest fears. Coming to UAH, they made it really helpful that as a Tennessee student, I get in-state tuition,” Brant told News 19.

Poll said UAH provides ample scholarship opportunities to make education affordable for all students.

“We do everything we can to make it affordable,” he said.

Housing Challenges and Future Plans

With rising freshman numbers, housing capacity has become a challenge.

“Housing is tight. We’re looking at public and private partnerships to possibly increase our residence halls,” Poll said.
“We’re nearly at capacity now, so that’s something we’re considering.”

The university is exploring solutions to accommodate the growing student population while maintaining high-quality facilities.

Graduate Enrollment Also on the Rise

UAH is celebrating growth beyond the undergraduate level. Graduate enrollment increased by 7% compared to last year, particularly in the Colleges of Business, Engineering, and Nursing.

“We are excited to see both undergraduate and graduate programs thriving,” Poll noted, emphasizing the university’s commitment to expansion while maintaining academic standards.

Looking Ahead

With controlled growth, scholarship incentives, and careful planning for housing and resources, UAH is positioning itself as a top choice for in-state and out-of-state students alike.
