5.2 Earthquake Shakes San Diego Area, Rattles Southern California

At 10:08 a.m. on Monday, the United States Geological Survey reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred in the vicinity of San Diego.

The epicenter of the earthquake was documented to be located 2.49 miles south of Julian, in the county of San Diego.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) map indicates that the earthquake was felt across a large portion of Southern California and even into Mexico.

According to Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist, this earthquake is most likely connected to the Elsinore Fault, which is a sub-fault of the greater San Andreas Fault system. A depth of approximately eight miles below the surface of the Earth was described by Jones as the depth of the earthquake.

The 3.3-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the same region on Sunday was a precursor to the 5.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday, according to Jones.

Neither injuries nor property damage were reported by anyone.

The Mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, declared on X that the city had been struck by a powerful earthquake that was centered near Julian. At this time, there is no evidence of any serious or obvious damage to the city, and I am in discussion with officials from the municipal, state, and federal governments. Please use the Get It Done process to report any damage that has occurred in your community. Take a look at http://sandiego.gov/get-it-done.

It was immediately reported that there were at least seven aftershocks following the first earthquake.

Responses to earthquakes around the southern region of California

It seemed to Robin Boland, who works for the Julian Chamber of Commerce, that the earthquake continued for a considerable amount of time. She stated that despite the fact that Julian is a relatively tiny town, it caused a great deal of concern among a great number of people.

According to Julian, it appeared that everyone in the town was reacting to it once more, with everyone running out to the sidewalks on Main Street. Boland stated that everyone was outside checking on each other, and that all of the car alarms were going off at the same time.

A Carlsbad resident reported that she felt the earthquake and that the jolt caused her to feel afraid.

“We were undoubtedly subjected to a really powerful jolt, and it lasted for almost ten seconds. In addition, our entire building was still at the same time… Caroline from Carlsbad stated that the earthquake she felt was the most powerful one she has experienced in a very long time.

At the time of the earthquake, Dylan Carniero was present inside the Mountain Spirits Liquor located in Julian. During the time that he was getting ready to use the restroom, he began to realize that the Earth was trembling.

“I just hear like consecutive three to four different bursts and pops of different bottles,” he replied in response.

The damage was caused by many bottles that fell off the shelves inside of Carniero’s business, according to Carniero.

According to Ashely Pinnick, who lives in Ramona, the shaking caused the ceiling of her home to crack. “It seemed as though the entire roof of my house was going to fall down.” When I started to hear something cracking, I started yelling for everyone to get out of the home because I was afraid. Our house has a giant beam that goes through the center of it, and I started to hear something cracking.

According to Linda Rangel, she was working from her home in Escondido when she felt the intense shaking throughout the area. “My first impulse was to simply leave the building,” she said. She said, “I don’t know if that was the right thing to do, but I didn’t have any shoes on.” There was no footwear on her feet. My phone was left behind,” I said. I have just gotten up and disappeared. She said that there was a great deal of creaking, but that her house had not sustained any kinds of damage.
