As part of a bigger and more comprehensive corporate downsizing initiative, Walgreens is planning to close three more locations in the state of Connecticut in the month of May. This would bring the total number of confirmed closures in the state to eight units. The closures are a reflection of the continued strategy that the corporation is implementing to reduce operations and handle ongoing challenging financial situations.
One of the affected locations is located at 1350 Stanley Street in New Britain, which is scheduled to close on May 19. Prescriptions will be relocated to 102 Washington Street for the time being. A day later, on May 20, the East Hartford store located at 922 Silver Lane will close, and prescriptions will be transferred to the location located at 20 Connecticut Boulevard. The Walgreens located at 157 Main Street in East Haven will be closing on May 22. Customers will be sent to the Walgreens located at 87 Foxon Street in New Haven, which is located nearby.
As part of a larger plan to close 1,200 stores across the country, 500 of which are scheduled to close by the end of June, these closures are in addition to the five stores that have previously been announced to be closing by the end of April.
Walgreens continues to assert that it is dedicated to its pharmacy business, despite the fact that the firm is struggling with increasing operating expenses, regulatory challenges, and decreased reimbursement rates. Customers whose prescriptions are affected by the closures will get mail alerts, and their prescriptions will be automatically transferred to facilities that have been designated in the vicinity.

- Middletown location at 311 East Main Street (will close on April 21)
- Hartford, Connecticut, 161 Washington Street (to be closed in March)
- Closed throughout the month of March, 435 Whalley Avenue, New Haven
- There is a shutdown on April 22nd at 11 Meriden Road in Waterbury.
