Woman Marries Her Father for VA Benefits While He Serves Prison Time, Authorities Say

In an effort to obtain her biological father’s $350 monthly payments from Veterans Affairs while he is incarcerated, an Indiana lady is facing accusations of bigamy and faking a marriage license application. According to the police, she tied the knot with her biological father when she was already married to another man. This was done in an effort to meet her father’s financial obligations.

It has been reported by the local ABC affiliate WPTA that Kimberly Tempel, 44, of Tell City, reportedly lied on her application by stating that she was not previously married and claiming that her “husband” was no more than a second cousin. In point of fact, Tempel submitted an application for a marriage license in order to marry her biological father, Bradly McCollom, who is currently doing time in jail for violating the terms of his probation. The police claim that she included a number of inaccurate information on the application.

According to the police, Tempel not only lied about who he was, but he also stated that McCollom was not a convicted lifetime sex offender or a violent offender. Both of these assertions are false. There is a federal child porn allegation that has been alleged to be on his record. In addition, the addresses that Tempel and McCollom provided were not accurate.

During the time when Tempel and McCollom tied the knot on July 26, 2024, according to the charging paperwork and court records that were obtained by WPTA, Tempel was supposedly in the midst of a divorce. The allegations that Tempel and McCollom had fabricated a marriage license in order to obtain McCollom’s $350 in VA benefits were allegedly made by McCollom’s sister to the police. Although McCollom has been incarcerated on a charge of violating the terms of his probation, he is scheduled to be released in July.

According to WPTA, McCollum’s sister is said to have submitted documents that included information that she received from a DNA firm. This evidence purportedly demonstrated that the likelihood of McCollum being Tempel’s biological father is “99.999999%.”

Bigamy and giving false information on a marriage license application were the allegations that led to Tempel’s arrest; however, he has since been freed from detention. On Wednesday, the local ABC affiliate WEHT reported that “someone with knowledge of the case” had contacted the outlet and stated that the allegations that Tempel was McCollom’s daughter were not true. Documentation was supplied by the individual who appears to show a test from DNA Diagnostics Center saying that McCollom is not Tempel’s father; however, WEHT has been unable to verify the claims because more tests are still being conducted.
