Wind Advisory Issued for Boise Ada County Braces for 45 MPH Gusts

Boise, get your kites ready and put your yard furniture away because it’s going to be windy.

On Monday, the National Weather Service warned of strong winds. The gusts will be strongest between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Stephen Parker, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told the Idaho Statesman that the winds will likely be strongest in the south and east of Boise.

Parker said that winds would stay between 25 and 35 mph for a long time in southeast Ada County and Mountain Home, with gusts up to 45 mph.

The NWS says the wind in Boise won’t be that strong, but it might be strong enough to break tree branches.

“Advisory” means that this won’t be dangerous to your life as long as you use common sense, Parker explained. “Things like an empty trash can or lawn furniture could get blown around.” But this isn’t the kind of thing that would damage your roof in any way.

Parker said that the winds will be caused by a cold front that will come into Idaho on Sunday night.

Parker told me over the phone on Sunday, “Some fronts just ooze through, but then 12 hours later, the winds really pick up, and that’s going to be this one.”

Parker also said that there might be light rain on Sunday and again on Wednesday.

The weekend should bring back the nice weather, with sunshine and temperatures back in the upper 50s.
