Temple University Students Feel Safer as Security Increases After Youth Incidents

Temple Police are making things safer before the weekend. On Friday, Philadelphia saw a lot of cops around campus.

That’s right, the mounted police unit was there too.

“All in all, it’s cool. It’s okay. A student at Temple University named Bri Hampton said, “I just feel better.”

Police said that over the weekend, a big group of unsupervised teens gathered near Broad and Cecil B Moore.

Police say at least two students were beaten up. One was attacked near Temple Towers, and the other was attacked near 12th and Montgomery. Police said three more attacks happened the next night, and one of them involved a Temple student.

Police say eight people were taken, but no one was seriously hurt.

Now, though, the cops are trying to keep those meetings and big events from happening again.

In a letter to the Temple community, President John Fry said that he had talked to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel and other city leaders about the problem and that they are working together to solve it quickly and successfully.

“John Fry sends us a lot of messages about school safety, and it’s good to know that he’s there and looking out for things. One student said, “You can see the work.”

“I feel safe. Abdallah Abdelhady, who just finished from dental school, said, “I feel like I’m in a place where people are following me around and putting my safety first.”

In the letter, President Fry said that they are working on ways to make sure that these kinds of problems don’t happen on campus and that they don’t bother or threaten students, employees, or even people in the North Philadelphia neighbourhood.
