A 71-year-old New York woman is recuperating from a startling incident on a Florida beach where she was sunning in her chair when a pickup truck ran over her head.
Shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the incident took place in Daytona Beach. Details regarding the incident were made public by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, but the victim’s and driver’s names have not yet been made public.
The woman, a visitor to the area, was seated in a beach chair behind a parked car when the tragedy happened, according to the sheriff’s office.
An 84-year-old woman was backing out of a neighboring parking space when she abruptly turned right toward the beach exit in her Chevrolet Colorado. Unfortunately, she hit the woman with the truck’s right rear wheel after failing to detect the sunbather behind her.
After the truck struck the victim’s head, the driver started to leave without realizing the collision had occurred.
She didn’t know the accident had happened until bystanders waved down the driver. According to the sheriff’s office, the driver did not exhibit any signs of impairment, indicating that the incident was most likely the consequence of a tragic error rather than carelessness or intoxication.
The driver was discharged following the incident, and no charges have been brought against her as of yet.
After the event, the unidentified victim was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. Although the entire degree of her injuries has not been made public, the police say she is still in stable condition.
Although the extent of the woman’s injuries has not been disclosed, her family and the general public, who were originally alarmed when the upsetting facts of the event came to light, are somewhat relieved that she is in stable condition.
This terrible incident serves as a reminder of the risks that can occur when cars are too close to beachgoers, particularly in busy tourist locations where people frequently stroll or relax near parking lots.
When driving close to areas where people are probably sitting or walking, local authorities are warning drivers to be more cautious.
