Phoenix Tragedy: Killer Sentenced for Slaying Mom Found Dead in Field, Abandoning Baby

PHOENIX — A man who admitted to killing a 21-year-old mother in Phoenix a few years ago has now been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Antwaun Ware, 27, was sentenced in Maricopa County Superior Court after he pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of Jasmine Dunbar in 2018.

The last time anyone saw Dunbar alive was when she departed with Ware to get a paternity test. Later on, Dunbar’s infant was discovered abandoned in a car seat that had been discarded on the side of the road.

The burnt ruins of Dunbar were found close to the intersection of 107th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Ware pleaded guilty to a charge of endangerment in addition to the murder allegation.

“The actions of this defendant are cruel and have no place in our community.” In a statement, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said, “Because of the hard work of my prosecutors, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.”
