PETA Faces Cold Snap as Manure Protest Outside ASPCA NYC Office Runs Into Trouble

The cold weather on Thursday prevented PETA demonstrators from dumping a truck full of dung outside the Manhattan office of the ASPCA, the group’s rival.

The estimated ton of excrement was transported through Midtown by PETA protesters who planned to drop it down right in the center of Eighth Avenue, close to West 37th Street, before noon.

However, one fervent protester had to get his hands dirty when the semi-frozen garbage failed to flow when the dump truck reached its location and attempted to lower the feces onto the street.

“They would have dumped the entire truckload,” PETA representative Ashley Byrne stated. “The process was slowed down by the fact that it was so cold the manure was frozen so they got somewhat through.”

Byrne, who was one of 20 yelling demonstrators at the gathering brandishing placards, adding, “Someone was actually up in the truck to shovel it out.” Thus, they disposed of a portion of it.

A PETA photo showed a man climbing up the side of the truck and sifting through some of the foul feces that came from an animal sanctuary.

According to police and PETA, the motorist and the shoveler were both detained at the site and given a summons for illegal dumping.

According to the NYPD, the two have a court hearing scheduled for next month.

In a recent campaign, PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, accused the ASPCA on Thursday of pushing “sham” humane certification labels on meat, eggs, and dairy products, claiming the products are from factories with appalling conditions that are cruel to the animals.

Byrne stated, “There is nothing humane happening there, so PETA has been requesting that the ASPCA remove their stamp of approval from these products for months.” Byrne also claimed that shoppers who look to the ASPCA are being “duped” by the labels.

In a statement to The Post, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) responded by saying that PETA does not care about creating a more humane farming system.

“Factory farming is brutally cruel and must end, but unlike the ASPCA, PETA has no interest in building a more humane farming system,” the ASPCA stated.

They, on the other hand, want to put an end to all animal husbandry, and this basic disagreement is the reason for our differing opinions on the usefulness of animal welfare certifications.

“Given the magnitude of suffering on industrial farms and the reality that most Americans eat meat, eggs and dairy but don’t want to support animal cruelty, the ASPCA believes that welfare certifications play an important role in setting basic standards and distinguishing better products in the marketplace.”

There was a sign that read, “ASPCA: Humane Labels STINK,” across the poop-filled dump truck, which Byrne said is still in police custody Thursday night. Factory farms are supported by dumps.
