Police thought a shooting connected to a gang resulted in a multi-city hunt involving four suspects being caught in a small Orange County town overnight.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department claims that around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, deputies were sent to the residential area of Calle Campana and Calle Canasta near the 5 Freeway in San Clemente — on a call concerning suspected gunshots.
OCSD claimed through their San Clemente Police Services Facebook page shortly before 8:40 a.m. Sunday, “while patrol checking the area, deputies located shell casings and other evidence of a possible shooting.” ” Shortly after, deputies discovered the crime scene [and] a vehicle maybe related [to it] was located in the City of Dana Point.”
Deputies there tried to pull the car over, but the driver resisted and a chase was started; finally, they turned in San Juan Capistrano.
The sheriff’s department said, “Two subjects rapidly left the vehicle and ran from deputies.” “One of the subjects was observed sprinting carrying a pistol in hand.” Both were caught and taken under custody till more inquiry.
OCSD further said, “After the foot pursuit ended, a safety sweep of the area was conducted and two handgun as well as several rounds of ammunition were located.” “At the original crime scene in San Clemente, deputies conducted safety sweeps of the immediate and surrounding areas but were unable to locate any victims of this incident.”
Officials further said that two other suspects stayed inside the car and were also taken into custody. Whether any will be formally charged was not entirely known.
O.C. Crime Lab and O.C. Gang Enforcement Team of OCSD are looking at the allegedly gang-related shooting.
Officials pointed out that, in relation to the incident, it does not seem as though there is any further public risk.
