The man, who is 31 years old and lives in Michigan, has been taken into custody for the suspected murder of his girlfriend. The alleged murderer allegedly shot the victim in the head on Valentine’s Day, and he allegedly told the authorities that he did it to “stop her from suffering.”
Records that were seen by Law&Crime indicate that Desaun Travon Ross was brought into custody on Friday and charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the slaying of Ebony Robinson.
According to a report from the Detroit Fox station WJBK, officers with the Detroit Police Department responded to a call of shots being fired in the vicinity of Washburn Street and Santa Clara Street, which is located on the west side of the city, at approximately 9:05 a.m. on February 14. Officials stated that when they arrived at the location, they discovered that the suspect, who was later determined to be Ross, had barricaded himself inside of a residence located in the vicinity.
According to WDIV, a Detroit-based affiliate of NBC, the authorities have stated that Ross and Robinson had a disagreement while they were both inside Robinson’s vehicle. According to the allegations, Ross got out of the vehicle at some point during the altercation and pulled out a handgun. He then proceeded to fire multiple shots through the window on the driver’s side of the vehicle, hitting Robinson at least once.
According to reports, Robinson made an attempt to escape Ross by driving away, but she made a mistake and smashed her vehicle into the front porch of a house. Based on the information provided by WDIV, Ross is said to have used a rifle to shot her in the head, resulting in her death. Her death was confirmed at the scene of the incident.
Authorities said that after the incident, Ross barricaded himself inside one of the houses along the crossroads with the firearm in order to protect himself from further harm. It has been alleged that Ross engaged in a standoff with law enforcement, during which he remained inside the house for a number of hours before finally agreeing to come outside. Once he did so, he was instantly abducted by the authorities.
Throughout the course of the standoff, residents who lived along the block were banned from going back to their homes or leaving their homes.
In an interview with WJBK, a woman who only goes by the name “Katrina” stated, “When they said bullets flying, I didn’t want to come so they had this thing blocked off right there, so when they said bullets flying, I didn’t have a problem with going way out of the way.” It’s terrifying, without a doubt terrible. Over the past few years, there have been a lot of things going on around here. We have been here for fourteen years.
It was on Sunday that Ross made his initial appearance in court for the purpose of his arraignment. According to WJBK, prosecutors stated that Ross admitted to the murder and told investigators that he shot Robinson “to stop her from suffering.” This information was provided during the hearing on the case. Additionally, according to the prosecution, the court was informed that a body-worn police camera showed Ross confessing to the offense against the defendant.
Ross was ordered to remain in prison without the possibility of bond by the judge. His next planned court appearance is for a probable cause conference, which is slated to take place on February 24.
