Florida (TDMN)– The death of a woman in Florida, whose family claimed that first responders abandoned their loved one in order to attend to another emergency, has led to an investigation being conducted within the organization.
On January 26, paramedics from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue replied to a call that was placed at the residence of Tasheba Anderson, who is 52 years old. It was stated that Anderson, who had undergone surgery six months earlier, was experiencing significant pain in his stomach. In the presence of her family, paramedics and firefighters arrived and immediately began administering medical care to Anderson, who was laid down on the floor of her kitchen.
Following that, the family asserted that the paramedics abandoned her in order to attend to another emergency at a nearby fire.
Anderson’s family members were interviewed by WFOR, a local CBS affiliate, which reported on the story and spoke with them. After undergoing gastric bypass surgery, Anderson had been hospitalized many times due to stomach pain, according to her sister Audrey Bent, who informed the outlet that Anderson had experienced stomach pain on multiple occasions. However, when the paramedics came on January 26, the events took a turn that was not anticipated.
“They had wrapped a sheet around her neck, and then they got a call for a fire up the street,” Bent said in an interview with WFOR. In addition, they promised that they would return, but they left her here.
Bent reported that Anderson began pleading with them to return while she was lying on the ground. “She was saying, ‘Why won’t they help me?'” Bent stated. Who is it that refuses to assist me? Why did they just abandon me in such a state? This is why they won’t assist me.'” According to Bent, her sister experienced a loss of consciousness while she was pleading for assistance.
Bent asserts that the paramedics did, in fact, return at some point; however, she adds that they behaved in a manner that was furious toward the family of their patient since they had repeatedly inquired about the reason why they had departed. According to reports, one of the paramedics threw Anderson’s identification card to the ground after a member of her family had handed it to her.
Within two hours of her arrival at Jackson North Medical Center, Anderson passed away even though she had been transported there by ambulance.
Contacted Miami-Dade Fire Rescue in an effort to obtain a comment, but we did not receive a response right away. In a statement that was sent to WFOR, the department stated that it was conducting an internal investigation and that it was “unable to provide further details.”
