Strangely, the inmates in Kentucky were in the right place at the right moment. They were working on the side of the highway when they quickly jumped into action and rescued a truck driver from a semi-truck, just seconds before it caught fire.
Four offenders from the Davies County Detention Center had spent their morning fixing potholes when their shift abruptly intensified in a way no one could have predicted.
The event occurred on the eastbound lanes of Highway Six, close to Frederica Street in Owensboro, Kentucky. When calamity hit, the inmates were on duty and working in the region. Bryan Marcum was driving a semi-truck when it came speeding over a hill nearby.
The truck lost control and nearly crashed into Police Deputy Christopher Isbill and the four detainees. The truck jackknifed, flipped over, and started spewing fuel, which then caught fire.
The detainees sprung into action without hesitation and under the supervision of Deputy Isbill.
They hurried to the front of the truck that was on fire, intent on rescuing the person who was driving it. While some of the prisoners were trying to put out the flames with fire extinguishers, others were using scrap metal to break up the window in a desperate bid to free the driver who was trapped inside.
The truck driver, Marcum, was alert and aware during the rescue, which was a miracle.
He was rescued from the wreckage and brought to safety, even though he had injuries that were not life-threatening. His swift rescue probably saved a much more disastrous ending, as the truck was just seconds away from exploding.

Brian Boehman, Chalan Cox, Nicholas Edge, and Joshua Powell were the brave prisoners that participated in the rescue. A ceremony was held in the detention center to commemorate each member of the crew for their courageous deeds.
Deputy Isbill was also praised for his ability to remain calm and lead effectively in stressful situations.
Art Maglinger, the jailer of Daviess County, said that he was impressed by the courage of the inmates. He emphasized that the people who were involved put themselves in danger in order to save someone’s life.
The fire and the leaking fuel presented an immediate threat, but their bravery was remarkable, especially in light of that fact. Thanks to the swift acts of the convicts and Deputy Isbill, a tragedy was avoided and a life was spared.
