By releasing a big compilation record for one day only, dozens of well-known independent musicians are banding together to aid the Los Angeles region in its recovery from catastrophic wildfires.
For just one day on Friday, the new 90-track compilation album, which includes songs by R.E.M., Faye Webster, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, and Dr. Dog, will be sold.
Beginning at midnight, “Good Music to Lift Up Los Angeles” will be available exclusively on Bandcamp for $20.25. All revenues will benefit the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.
Additionally, Bandcamp will give MusiCares 100% of its album sales proceeds to help individuals impacted by the wildfires.
The announcement was made as Los Angeles is still getting over a string of destructive wildfires that have burned thousands of acres, forced people to flee their homes, and caused long-lasting harm to communities. One of the two fatal January fires in L.A. County, the Eaton Fire, destroyed homes and caused evacuations, including the home of Cleon Peterson, an Altadena-based artist who made the album’s cover art.
The compilation’s organizers, who had just a few weeks to put it together, say they are “humbled” by all of the renowned and acclaimed musicians who made contributions.

Jordan Kurland, co-founder of Good Music (not to be confused with Kanye West’s GOOD Music), stated, “We hope this collection of songs, in addition to raising much-needed recovery funds, provides some solace.” “Music is a healing force,” Kurland remarked.
The album includes live recordings, covers, and previously unheard songs from musicians from a variety of genres.
The contributions include Cold War Kids, Jeff Tweedy, TV on the Radio, Toro y Moi, Neko Case, Manchester Orchestra, Mac DeMarco, Tenacious D, and Dawes, whose members lost their homes in the Eaton Fire. Both Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, led by singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard, perform a live rendition of “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode.

In the past, Good Music has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars by organizing fundraising collections for issues including reproductive justice and voting rights. You can find the whole track list and album information at goodmusiccomp.bandcamp.com.
In addition to the highly successful FireAid concert series, which is anticipated to raise over $100 million, and “Super Bloom,” another extensive compilation album that is available for purchase on Bandcamp, this is the most recent example of recording artists banding together to raise money for the recovery from the wildfire in Los Angeles.
