A school district in Connecticut has made a strong commitment to protecting its pupils in the event of a federal immigration raid.
On Tuesday, Bridgeport Public Schools said that it is renewing its commitment to protecting the safety and privacy of all children and families in the event that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers attempt to enter school grounds.
At a recent meeting of the Board of Education, Interim Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery stated that the district’s immigration enforcement standards were fully in effect. He emphasized the necessity of protecting the safety of all kids, regardless of their immigration status.
These rules are intended to ensure that every student has a safe learning environment that is free from the disturbance and worry that could be caused by federal immigration enforcement.
The district has established particular limitations on the appearance of ICE agents and other government officials as part of these guidelines.
Under the new guidelines, ICE agents and federal officials are prohibited from entering school buildings, boarding school buses, or attending school events unless they have received written permission from the superintendent in advance.
This guarantees that any federal presence on school property is closely regulated and observed.
Dr. Avery made it clear that anyone who is not permitted, especially ICE officials who do not have the right authorization, will not be allowed to enter any school premises.
Furthermore, the district has stated that federal immigration enforcement efforts are not allowed on school premises in order to protect students and their families from unneeded anxiety.

“We will not tolerate any threats to the safety or dignity of our students,” Avery stated. “Every student in Bridgeport, regardless of their immigration status, has the right to feel secure and supported in our schools. I became an educator to advocate for all students, and I will ensure their rights and privacy are upheld. Our schools will remain a safe space where all students can learn, grow, and succeed without fear or discrimination.”
In addition, Bridgeport Public Schools has taken measures to protect the privacy and security of its children. The district does not gather or keep any information regarding the immigration status of kids or their families.

This policy is intended to ensure the safety and privacy of everyone in the school community, regardless of their immigration status, and to create an atmosphere in which all students feel secure and supported.
Bridgeport Public Schools is delivering a strong message of support to its kids and families by repeating these standards. The district is highlighting that the well-being of its students and families is its top concern.
