Authorities Confirm 7 Officers Shot During Standoff with Barricaded Suspect in San Antonio

According to the police chief of San Antonio, Texas, seven police officers were shot by a barricaded suspect on Wednesday night. He further mentioned that the suspect had been discovered dead from a gunshot wound.

According to Chief William McManus, the incident started when officers were called to an apartment complex in the Stone Oak district of north San Antonio. The call was made by a family member of the suspect and reported a “suicide in progress.”

According to McManus, the first officer to arrive “was shot in the lower extremity.”

“Another officer arriving after him, or about the same time as him, was also shot,” the police chief added. “Third officer arriving on the scene was shot as well. And finally, the fourth officer who arrived on the scene was shot, I believe that was in the upper torso.”

According to McManus, the four policemen were taken to the hospital with injuries that were thought to be non-life-threatening.

McManus later stated in a video that was aired on Facebook that the total number of cops who were shot was actually seven. He did not provide any information regarding the state of the other three individuals.

McManus stated in the video that it was uncertain whether the man shot himself or was shot by the police.

He had said that the suspect was a man who was in his 40s.

“The suspect had three arrests on Jan. 18, two for assault offenses and one for DWI. He was out on bond at the time,” McManus stated.

During the event, which McManus stated in the video lasted for “several hours,” some of the nearby units were evacuated.

According to McManus, the four policemen that were injured have between four and eight years of experience working for the department.

“I just heard a loud pop; it was a like a single pop. I didn’t think much of it and my mom is living with me so she told me to come out to the balcony because she heard a lot of noise,” Loredo stated. “Sure enough, when we go out to the balcony, we heard a bunch of helicopters. And then 20 seconds after we were out there, we heard more shots. It was like two or three shots. I told my mom, ‘Hey mom, those are gunshots.'”
