According to the arrest report, a former nurse at New Smyrna Beach High School who was arrested by Ormond Beach police in December for traveling to meet a student at a restaurant with the intention of having sex was arrested once more by New Smyrna Beach police on Wednesday for offenses he allegedly committed with the girl while they were on campus.
Joshua Leggett, age fifty, was charged with indecent, lewd, or lascivious touching of a minor as well as offense against a student by an authority person within the jurisdiction of the New Smyrna Beach police department. He was being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on Thursday, with a bail amount of $100,000.
The New Smyrna Beach police department stated in their arrest report that they began their investigation of Leggett when he went to a Chick-fil-A in Ormond Beach, where the 16-year-old worked, and waited for her to finish her shift before having inappropriate contact with her while he was in his truck in the parking lot.
According to the authorities, the girl’s parents, who were informed of the girl’s contact with Leggett, saw their daughter get into his truck and then called the Ormond Beach police department upon seeing their daughter.
During the month of December, officials from the Volusia County school district announced that Leggett, a contracted nurse working at the high school, had been placed on leave so that he would not interact with pupils whatsoever.
Meetings of a sexual nature at the high school’s clinic
According to the report, a New Smyrna Beach police detective was sent to the scene of the arrest of Leggett on December 14. This was done because Ormond Beach police discovered that the kid was a student at New Smyrna Beach High School and that Leggett worked as a nurse at the school.
In December, a New Smyrna Beach police detective was conducting an interview with the girl. During the course of the interview, the detective discovered that the girl had met with Leggett at the school’s clinic for lunch. On that occasion, the two of them kissed and engaged in inappropriate sexual contact, as the detective stated in his report.
According to the authorities, the girl also had audio recordings and a video of her interactions with Leggett at the clinic that was located on the high school campus.
This information was underlined in the report, which stated that school staff members who were interrogated by the police indicated that the girl was spotted traveling to the clinic on multiple times and that she remained there for extended periods of time.
According to the arrest record, the police also found out that the girl had lodged a complaint with the school on November 13 regarding inappropriate statements made by Leggett. This information was acquired throughout the course of their inquiry.
