A local elementary school had to be evacuated as firefighters attempted to contain a fire that started at a company in Gloucester County, New Jersey, early Thursday morning.
In Franklin Township, the fire began at a shop on Route 40, also called Harding Highway, close to the intersection with Blue Bell Road. Both rescue personnel and local residents were alerted to the situation by the large plumes of black smoke that were visible rising from the area.
Locals claim that North East Pool Distributors is well-known in the community for producing fiberglass swimming pools.
Main Road Elementary School was sufficiently close to the fire to raise safety concerns, particularly given the possibility that the wind would shift and push smoke in the direction of the school.
The Franklin Township School District responded by moving the pupils from Main Road Elementary to Caroline Reutter Elementary School, which is roughly ten minutes away by car, as a precaution.
Given that the smoke could be harmful to the pupils’ respiratory systems, the decision was made out of extreme caution for their health and safety.
Parents of students at Main Road Elementary were informed by the school system of the temporary move and given the assurance that they would be called later in the day with precise pickup instructions.
To guarantee the pupils’ safety, authorities continued to oversee the situation and work with the school system.
Road closures had an effect on the region around the incident, as Harding Highway was closed between Main Road and Blue Bell Road to facilitate the response and investigation.
In order to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to neighboring properties, emergency services put in a lot of effort.
She expressed her worry to a local farmer who couldn’t get back to her land because of the fire’s close proximity. She had to wait for information on the situation before being permitted to return to her property, which was close to the business.
The source of the fire and if anyone had been hurt were unknown at the time of the report. On the site, investigators were attempting to identify the cause of the fire.
