Not for the players of the National Football League, but for their cute canine counterparts who are playing in this year’s Puppy Bowl, this is the state of play that is anticipated to occur on Super Bowl Sunday.
Puppy Bowl XXI will include competition from twelve dogs from shelters in the Philadelphia area, including three pups with special needs. This will take place at the same time that the Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
With 142 puppy players from 80 shelters and rescue organizations from 40 states and territories, the “call-to-adoption” television event is celebrating its 21st year with the greatest field of competitors it has ever had.
The puppies that were rescued from shelters in the Philadelphia area did not make it into the starting lineup for the Puppy Bowl this year; but, there is one rescue that has a potential secret weapon: Saquon Barky.

In the competition for the prized “Lombarky” trophy, Team Ruff will be represented by seven puppies from the Delaware Valley, and Team Fluff will be represented by five youngsters from the same region.
Both Phoenix Animal Rescue in Chester Springs, which is located in Chester County, and Providence Animal Center in Media, which is located in Delaware County, will be sending two puppies that are located in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

The Puppy Bowl is billed as the “cutest competition of the year,” and it is comprised of three hours of puppies frolicking, bumbling, and wagging their tails.
Not only does the Puppy Bowl serve as a low-stakes alternative to the Super Bowl, but it also has the purpose of uplifting animals that are housed in shelters and the animal welfare workers who are attempting to find them permanent homes.

Puppy Bowl spectators can look forward to guaranteed good feelings, with plenty of puppy playing, behind-the-scenes action, play-by-play analysis, and inspirational backstories. Instead of anxiously waiting for Jalen Hurts’ concussion protocol status, they can look forward to assured good vibes.
In the guise of the Kitty Halftime Show, cats will make an appearance, and in addition to adoptable puppies, there will be a spotlight on certain cats that are looking for permanent homes.
However, the dogs will be the recipients of the awards on game day. The title of Most Valuable Puppy (MVP) will be awarded to only one of the competitors. Someone else will be the recipient of the Underdog prize.
Two of the puppies will come from MatchDog Rescue in Marlton, which is located in Burlington County, and the other two will come from Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, which is located in Deepwater, Salem County. South Jersey will be represented by four puppies.
Renee’s Rescues, located in Hockessin, New Castle County, will be sending one puppy to the state of Delaware.
There are three puppies competing for the Brandywine Valley SPCA, which is an organization that serves the Delaware Valley.
