Perry Weather set up a system at Wheatland Union High School’s football field at the end of January. It gets data from a small area around campus.
A Perry Weather system is a real-time weather tracking system made to give businesses site-specific weather data and automated alerts to make their operations safer and more efficient. Lisa Phillips, who is in charge of health services for the Wheatland Union High School District, and Jason Soderlund, who is in charge of sports, pushed for this addition to be made to the school.
According to Soderlund, one of the best things about the Perry Weather method is that it lets us share information with coaches. This is because the Perry Weather app does this. They can see what I’m seeing because of it. It also lets us say, “Hey, look, you can’t practice today because of X, Y, and Z.” Plus, it tells them what they can and can’t do at practice. This is especially helpful for football practice in August, which is one of the hottest months of the year. For that reason, I’m telling all of our kids to take off their helmets and shoulder pads when it gets hot. You can still practice, but we need to be careful with this. Also, “Hey, you need to give them more water breaks.” “Those things.”
The State Department of Education runs the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), which makes rules for sports, such as the minimum temperature for play. A wet bulb thermometer was already being used at the school to check the weather before the Perry Weather system was added. But now, thanks to the Perry Weather system, the school doesn’t need someone to stand by the wet bulb temperature and watch it; Phillips thought it was great.
Phillips said, “That lack of communication doesn’t worry us.” “Everyone is getting the same thing at the same time.”
Phillips explained that the Perry Weather system checks the weather, Wet Bulb Globe weather, wind speed, air quality, and lightning strikes in real time.
There are plans to put real-time temperature on the district’s website, but right now only a few staff members can see the data.
This system was bought by the Wheatland Union High School district. Perry Weather says that other high schools, like Orland High School and Yuba City High School, also have their own Perry Weather System station. The Perry Weather System is also used by many universities and major sports teams.
