UBM– Nearly one thousand miles away in Florida, a guy who is accused of abandoning a newborn infant in the snow shortly after severely beating the child’s mother has been taken into custody. The man is twenty years old and hails from Virginia.
According to the announcement made by the authorities, Darvin Flores Caballeros was taken into custody on Thursday morning on a fugitive warrant issued by another state. Flores Caballeros is presently being held in Florida, where he is awaiting extradition back to Virginia, where he is being charged with two charges of child endangerment in addition to one count of each of the following: malicious wounding, strangling, assault and battery on a family member, and petit larceny. A protective order for him in the event of an emergency is also in effect.
Flores Caballeros was the subject of an active warrant for his arrest, as stated in a press release issued by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was issued in connection with an incident that occurred on February 12 in Fairfax County, Virginia.
According to the findings of an inquiry, Flores Caballeros is accused of physical abuse and strangulation of a mother. According to the authorities, Flores Caballeros was responsible for the woman dropping her infant child, who was 13 days old, to the ground during the “fight.” Before law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene, Flores Caballeros grabbed the child and managed to escape the area on foot while carrying the infant in his arms. And then, according to the authorities, he deserted the infant.
It was written in the press release that “a Good Samaritan found the infant left in a pile of snow,” according to the sheriff’s office. Immediately following the assault, the victim was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office announced on the morning of Thursday, February 20, that it had received information that Flores Caballeros had departed the state of Virginia and was currently located in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Santa Rosa Beach is approximately 80 miles away from the western border of the state with Alabama.
While he was exiting an apartment complex and getting into a vehicle, he was discovered at approximately eleven o’clock in the morning. Flores Caballeros was taken into jail after receiving confirmation from the authorities that he was a passenger in the vehicle. The authorities then proceeded to perform a traffic stop for a felony. The Walton County Jail was the location where he remained as of Friday, after he was taken there.
