A teacher from Southern California was taken into custody for allegedly sexually abusing a teen student.

An educator from Southern California was taken into custody on suspicion of sexually abusing a student who was under the age of 18.

Hector Edward Zaldivar, also known as Zaldivar, was identified as the suspect by the Riverside Police Department.

A female juvenile victim who reported the alleged sexual abuse to the police on February 11 prompted the police to initiate an investigation into the matter.

It is believed that the crimes took place in June of 2022, during the summer school session at Terrace Elementary School, which is located in Riverside. According to the officials, the suspect was taught fourth grade at the time of the incident.

Zalvidar was taken into custody on February 12 in connection with the alleged criminal occurrences. It is believed by the investigators that there may be further victims who have not yet come forward, and he is currently working for the Alvord Unified School District.

It has been confirmed by district officials that Zalvidar has been placed on administrative leave while the inquiry into the matter continues.

A statement was issued by Resma Byrne, the superintendent of the school system, which included the following statements:

The well-being and protection of our children is our utmost concern, and we are providing the Riverside Police Department with our full cooperation as they carry out their investigation. The teacher has been placed on immediate administrative leave by the Alvord Unified School District, and the district is taking all of the required actions to guarantee the safety of our students, staff, and families.

When parents feel that their children require direction or assistance, we encourage them to come out to us and have open conversations with their children. Students and staff members have access to counseling services, and we strongly encourage anybody who feels they require support to get in touch with their child’s teacher or the administration of the school.

We are aware that this information is extremely upsetting, and you can rest assured that we will continue to make every effort to provide a secure and encouraging educational setting for all of our kids.

On allegations of committing indecent and lascivious acts upon a minor under the age of 14 while using force, Zalvidar was taken into custody and put into the Robert Presley Detention Center. A bail of one million dollars is being held for him.

Detective Steven Espinosa can be reached at 951-353-7120 or emailed at SEspinosa@RiversideCA.gov by anyone who may have information on the investigation of the case.
