Beloved 52-Year-Old Orangutan Passes Away at Houston Zoo

UBM– The eldest orangutan at the Houston Zoo passed away unexpectedly, and the zoo had to say farewell to her.

Cheyenne, who was 52 years old, experienced a sudden illness and had to go to the veterinarian for an emergency examination on Sunday morning.

At that time, veterinarians found a serious kidney illness. She underwent therapy for the problem, but she passed away unexpectedly while she was recovering from the checkup.

Cheyenne had been in the Houston Zoo since she was 21 years old. Over the next thirty years, her intelligence and strong will won the hearts of visitors and zoo staff members alike.

Her attitude made her an excellent foster parent to several baby orangutans, and her maternal instincts were beneficial to the zoo’s Species Survival Program.
