North Las Vegas Police Officer Dies in Shootout: Community Honors Him with Emotional Procession

After a shootout that resulted in the death of a male suspect, the North Las Vegas Police Department is grieving the loss of one of its own.

The police department announced on Wednesday that the officer who died was Jason Roscow, who was 46 years old and had worked for the agency for 17 years.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the loss of one of our own, who was killed in the line of duty today,” the department stated on Facebook late Tuesday night. “This tragic loss is a solemn reminder of the dedication and bravery of those who serve and protect our community.”

According to a press statement, the incident occurred at approximately 2:13 p.m., when authorities were informed that one person was aiming a gun at another person.

According to the police, the suspect ran away without following the orders of the cops who were responding. According to the release, an officer found the armed suspect and told him to expose his hands. However, the suspect did not comply, and “an exchange of gunfire ensued.”

According to the police, the officer, who was later identified as Roscow, “was struck multiple times during the exchange but was able to return fire, striking the subject.”

Both Roscow and the suspect were transported to a hospital, where they both passed away. While Roscow’s body was being transported to the Clark County coroner’s office, officers from a number of different law enforcement agencies assembled outside the hospital and held a procession.

According to a statement released by the police on Wednesday, Roscow’s dedication to keeping the public safe caused him to join the Traffic Division in 2013. He went back to Patrol Operations in February 2024 after spending 11 years in that position.
