A daycare provider in Illinois was arrested on counts of child endangerment after reportedly abandoning a 4-year-old kid in her care in a frigid alley before putting him in a trash can.
According to the Homewood Police Department, Anna Petrou, 58, was arrested on Thursday for putting a toddler in a hallway outside The Learning Lab Preschool & Childcare in Homewood for approximately 20 seconds when he would not take a sleep.
According to the police, the incident took place on January 13 in the afternoon while the temperature was approximately 19 degrees.
According to the police, the teacher who is accused of being bad was caught on video surveillance bringing the youngster back into the facility and putting him inside the empty rubbish bin as a kind of punishment in front of other kids and teachers.
That day, once the boy’s parents picked him up from daycare, they informed the police about the event.
Monica Forte, his mother, told the outlet, “I had no words, especially when I reviewed the tape.” She also mentioned that her son has been very attached to her since the incident.
“And my first thing was, of course, I’m crying. And I went to the police station.”
Petrou, who said that her way of disciplining was a joke, was criticized by her for not being able to appropriately calm the situation down. Forte stated that her children will not be going back to the daycare center, and she is thinking about taking legal action.
Father Justin Barnes told the newspaper, “He did nothing wrong.”
“It was just way worse than I could imagine. I’m worried about what he feels.”
Petrou was charged with a misdemeanor for putting a child’s life in danger, according to the authorities. Petrou was freed from detention until a later court appearance.
