In defiance of the odds, a red-shouldered hawk that was appropriately called “Miracle” managed to survive an astonishing and terrifying flight that lasted about 600 miles while it was wedged in the front grill of a vehicle, according to officials from the wildlife department.
During the weekend, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup came into contact with the hawk while traveling at around 70 miles per hour on Interstate 77, which is located close to the state line between West Virginia and Ohio.
This was the beginning of the unique ordeal. Following the incident, the driver came to a stop in order to inspect the vehicle for any signs of damage; however, it is remarkable that he did not detect the bird that was ensnared within the front grill of the truck.
Even though she was pinned inside the grill of the truck, Miracle was able to survive the lengthy travel despite the high-speed hit that she had experienced.
The truck started its journey south, and Miracle gradually moved to the passenger side of the grill as the truck completed its voyage. In the end, the truck arrived in Charleston, West Virginia, and it was then that the driver made the discovery that the hawk was present.
Upon coming to the realization that the bird had succeeded in surviving the entire journey, the driver immediately made contact with the Carolina Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
The volunteers from the rehabilitation center rushed to the scene as soon as they learned about the issue and arrived to carefully remove the hawk from the truck. In order to conduct a comprehensive examination, the animal was subsequently sent to a clinic in the vicinity.

Professionals in the field of wildlife conservation were taken aback when they discovered that Miracle had not only survived the harrowing journey, but that she had also not suffered any broken bones or significant injuries, despite the extraordinary circumstances.
“Once we ensure she’s self-feeding and flight test her, we will be working on a plan to get her back home to Ohio,” Carolina Wildlife stated on social media.
As a result of Miracle’s survival, the Carolina Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, a charitable organization that specializes in providing care for injured and orphaned wildlife, expressed relief and appreciation to the organization.
When it comes to providing medical care to wildlife, the center relies significantly on volunteers, and this astonishing recovery is a testimonial to the dedication of those who are involved.
The extraordinary story of Miracle has garnered a lot of attention in a short amount of time, with the purpose of serving as a reminder of the resiliency of wildlife as well as the significance of exercising caution when driving through regions where animals may be in danger.
Miracle has been able to receive the necessary medical attention and is currently making progress toward her recovery as a result of the prompt efforts taken by the driver and the volunteers at the rehabilitation center.
