According to authorities, a domestic violence call in Southwest Miami-Dade on Sunday night turned deadly, and an investigation is currently underway.
A deputy was called to investigate a dispute involving guns after dispatchers received a call from a lady inside a house near Southwest 132nd Terrace and 130th Avenue in Three Lakes at approximately 6:40 p.m., according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
According to MDSO, the woman contacted 911 but was unable to speak on the phone because she was involved in a physical dispute with her husband. But after hearing what was being said on the other end, the dispatcher discovered that the husband was armed.
According to Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, “in this case, it was a physical altercation and we’re being advised that there was a firearm.” “It absolutely increases your level of response.”
The woman was still inside the house when the deputy, who was the first to arrive on the scene, met the husband outside. The deputy was shot by the law enforcement officer when the husband pulled a handgun on him, according to MDSO.
“When our deputy arrived on the scene, he made contact with a subject outside of the home,” Cordero-Stutz stated. “That subject pulled a gun on the deputy, and the deputy fired.”
After being brought to a nearby hospital, the spouse passed away from his wounds. The deputy was unharmed during the altercation, according to MDSO.
Following the preliminary investigation, Cordero-Stutz spoke to media and referred to the occurrence as one of many “complicated cases.”
“We need to make sure that we gather all the evidence,” she stated. “Unfortunately, this is another instance of a 911 call that started with domestic violence, [which] we have seen one too many lately.”
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into the shooting’s circumstances, according to MDSO.
