More than one million taxpayers have been informed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that, if they file their 2021 tax return by April 15, 2025, they may still be eligible for an astimulus payment of up to $1,400.
This payment is equivalent to the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC), which was a component of the American Rescue Plan’s third wave of stimulus checks, which was passed in 2021 in reaction to the economic impacts of COVID-19.
Despite the fact that the majority of payments were sent automatically, many residents did not get them because they made mistakes on their returns, either declaring zero or leaving the RRC area blank. Others, particularly those who depend on nontaxable income like Social Security benefits, never filed their return because they thought they were exempt from filing.
Final opportunity to get a $1,400 IRS refund
Taxpayers who filed but failed to correctly claim the credit are already getting automatic payouts via direct deposit or the mail, according to the IRS. The maximum amount is $1,400 per person, though it fluctuates depending on the circumstances.
Those who have not yet submitted their 2021 return, however, run the risk of not receiving the reimbursement. They have to file their return before the deadline of April 15 in order to get it. The IRS emphasizes that this benefit is specifically intended for low-income individuals and reminds taxpayers that they can still claim it even if they have little to no income.
You must have a current Social Security number and not have had another taxpayer claim you as a dependent on that return in order to be eligible.
In order to facilitate the procedure for individuals who are still eligible for this financial assistance, the IRS also stated that free filing options are offered on its official website.
