Marquette, Michigan Beginning Monday evening and lasting into Tuesday afternoon, a late-season snowfall is predicted to create dangerous travel conditions throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Baraga and Marquette counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 8 p.m. Monday through 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Marquette National Weather Service. Baraga County and the northern portions of Marquette County, which are not near Lake Superior, could see snow accumulations of up to 8 inches. Three inches or less are expected in areas east of M-95 and south of US-41.
With gusts of up to 40 mph, strong winds will accompany the snowfall, which could result in patchy blowing snow and poor visibility throughout rush hour.
There are other advisories in effect throughout the U.P., such as those in the counties of Keweenaw, Gogebic, Houghton, Ontonagon, Alger, Luce, and Schoolcraft. Communities in the north, including Ironwood, Houghton, and Munising, may anticipate 2 to 5 inches of snow, with some regions seeing gusts of up to 45 mph.
Roads may turn icy, so drivers are advised to use caution, particularly on Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Due to gusting gusts, residents should secure unsecured outdoor items and be ready for fallen limbs.
During advisory hours, drivers are encouraged to slow down and pay attention to local alerts.
