Due to the return of Arctic air, Maryland is currently experiencing Alert Days through Thursday morning; additional colder weather is expected to arrive the following week.
The day is going to be filled with plenty of sunshine, and the high temperature is going to be somewhere around 30 degrees.
In spite of this, tonight will offer another chilly evening, with low temperatures falling into the middle to upper teens and lower twenties throughout the night. The wind chill will drop to between 5 and 15 degrees.
It is expected that the high temperatures in the region will reach the mid-30s on Thursday, and then the night will be even colder, with lows falling down into the 20s.
There will be a little increase in temperatures on Friday, with highs reaching the low 40s and partly cloudy skies.
If we go ahead to the weekend, we can see that the next storm system will be approaching the region, and it will bring with it the possibility of rain rather than snow.
The high temperatures for Saturday are forecast to be in the middle of the 40s, making it the warmest day of the week.
It is expected that on Sunday, a powerful Arctic cold front will move through the region again. There is a possibility of snow showers developing throughout the afternoon and evening hours, and high temperatures will return to the middle of the 30s. Overnight and into Monday, temperatures will drop to approximately 20 degrees, and wind chills will plummet into the teens.
At the beginning of the following week, the coldest air of the season will come. From Monday through Wednesday, the highest temperatures will only reach the 20s, while the lowest temperatures during the night will drop into the lower to middle teens.
On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, the temperature may even drop into the single digits in certain regions.
As a result of the persistent gusty winds from the northwest throughout this period, wind chills will be the coldest we have experienced throughout the entire winter.
Cold Weather Alert: Arctic Front Heading Toward North Texas This Week
There will be wind chills in the single digits in many regions, with some areas experiencing temperatures that are below zero. There is a possibility that the wind chills in the mountains of Western Maryland could reach twenty degrees below zero or even lower.
During the next few days, the primary focus will be on these extremely low temperatures; but, attention will also be directed toward any indications of moisture arriving while the cold air continues to persist. There is a risk that snowy weather will develop in the region if moisture does manage to make its way there.
