The American Red Cross of North Carolina is sending nine volunteers who have received training in disaster relief to the state of California in order to assist with disaster relief operations.

The Red Cross is making a larger effort to meet the requirements of tens of thousands of individuals and families who have been compelled to leave their homes as a result of the ongoing crisis.

At least twenty-four persons have been reported to have lost their life as a direct result of the wildfires that have been occurring in the Los Angeles region.
In addition, there are presently at least sixteen people who have been reported missing, and the police have warned that this figure is likely to increase as search and rescue operations continue.
The situation is still extremely precarious, and forecasters are warning that there is a renewed risk of hazardous weather conditions as a result of the increased presence of high winds.
These winds have the potential to substantially worsen the spread of the flames, placing new communities in danger of being destroyed by them.
Volunteer Gene Pavone, who is an experienced disaster volunteer from the Wilmington Chapter of the American Red Cross, is one of the individuals who will be deploying to the state of California.
As someone who has worked in the field of disaster relief for more than a decade, Pavone is about to travel on his fourth deployment to California to aid in the recovery operations following the wildfires.
