63,000 Jeep Cherokees Recalled After Risk of Sudden Power and Brake Failures

According to a recall notice that was filed on Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling over 63,000 Jeep Cherokees due to a flaw that causes the vehicles to lose power and makes it difficult to park, which raises the likelihood of an accident.

The recall documents claim that “the power transfer unit (PTU) of the vehicles may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power and/or loss of park function “due to an improperly seated input shaft ring.”

The risk of a crash can be increased if there is a lack of drive power. If the park function is lost, it might cause a vehicle to roll away unintentionally, which increases the chances of a crash or injury.

The company warns that “a loss of motive power can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.” However, drivers may also encounter “a Service 4WD message, noise, vibration or change in drive quality.”

The recall records do not indicate if Stellantis is aware of any accidents or injuries that are connected to this problem.

Some Jeep Cherokee vehicles from 2017 to 2019 are affected by the recall. Chrysler has not yet provided details on how it plans to resolve the issue, but it has announced that notification letters will be sent to owners on February 13.
